OLD BUSINESS
Judy reported that the Health Care Forum on 1/31 attracted 56 attenders. Exciting
ideas were presented and the next, solution oriented forum, on March 7 should
be equally exciting. Finding a balance between the bipartisan nature of the
forum and the fact that it is being sponsored by the BCDCC was also discussed.
It was suggested that some of us write letters to the editor thanking the
BCDCC for sponsoring the forum and plugging the next.
The phone canvassing of the Sagle Precinct
at Dan’s house was very successful. Shelly reported
that 10 callers identified 125 people. On March 11 we will
meet at a location to be announced later to canvass the
Grouse Creek Precinct. On March 18 we will meet at Jan’s
house to canvass the Humbird Precinct.
NEW BUSINESS
The Boundary County fundraiser was discussed. They are reported to have raised
$1700.00 with their chili-feed and auction. A Bonner County fundraiser was
proposed for Friday, March 31. Shelly will look for a location and Deb will
look for someone to head it up.
Marueen volunteered to make signs and it was mentioned that Judy makes a mean
apple pie which could be a possible auction item.
Shelly pointed out that the Democrats are not very visible in giving to charities.
A scholarship fund was mentioned as possibility, as well as giving to Toys
for Tots, giving to the food bank, giving to the health clinic, adopting a
highway and sponsoring a book collection at the library. A giving coordinator
for the BCDCC would be a handy person to have.

NEW BUSINESS
Shelly reported on the training of precinct committee persons. She let us know
that she is here to help us in any organizational way she can. Identifying
democrats is of the utmost importance. She has updated the precinct committee
persons handbook and has posted it on the yahoo web site. Shelly would like
to see us focus on phone canvassing as individuals or groups to start with,
possibly focusing on one precinct at a time. It was decided we would start
with the Sagle precinct. Deb, Parise, Bob Marley, Rick, JoAnn, Bob Whynhausen
and Shelly agreed to meet at Dan’s on February 4th at 10 am.
Judy reported on the upcoming health care forums sponsored by the BCDCC. The
first forum will be at the Sandpoint Community Hall on January 31 at 6:30 pm.
It will focus on the nature and scope of access problems in Bonner County as
well as possible solutions. The second forum will be at the meeting room in
Bonner County Hospital on March 7 at 6:30 pm. This meeting will focus on developing
working solutions. For those interested in writing a letter to the editor some
talking points are the 14,000 uninsured people in Bonner County, of which 80%
are employed. The average amount spent on health insurance by a family of four
is $11,000 to $12,000. Per capita income in Bonner County is a little over
$18,000. Health care is an important part of community infrastructure. It’s
time for a change.

and approved.
